Frank Lampard has revealed mixed news on the injury front as Coventry City prepare to kick-off their festive schedule at Portsmouth on Saturday lunchtime (12.30pm).

The good news is that experienced goalkeeper Ben Wilson is back in full training after recovering from a knee ligament strain that has kept him out for two months, albeit not quite ready to make this weekend’s matchday squad, but there remains frustration for the Sky Blues leading scorer Haji Wright who is not expected back until next month.

“Haji is still working away, so he’s not on the pitch just yet,” said City’s head coach at today’s pre-match press conference ahead of the trip to Fratton Park.

“It’s a busy period of games and unfortunately we’re going to miss him for a few more games because they come thick and fast. So we’re looking into the early part of the New Year where he will be out on the pitch with us, and we want him back quickly.”

As for Wilson, he said: “Ben’s been fully training with us over the last day or two, which is good news because he’s a great character around the place. He’s a high level keeper for us, brings competition to our goalkeeping department and I am really pleased to have him back on the pitch.

“I would say first, he’s a very good goalkeeper, but he’s also a big personality in the group and we need personality.”

Asked if he will be available for selection against Pompey, Lampard added: “Not for this weekend. Thursday was probably his first full day of working and joining in a finishing session, so he’s working hard. It’s his first step back to full fitness but he won’t be far.”
