Frank Lampard says there’s nothing “imminent” in terms of in-coming Coventry City transfers amid reports that the deal for Rangers’ forward Rabbi Matondo has broken down.

The Sky Blues looked set to take the 24-year-old winger on loan this week but negotiations have clearly stalled and it’s now unclear whether the player will be joining the Championship club. Sky Sports says that the move has broken down due to a disagreement between the clubs, claiming they have been unable to agree on the bonuses involved as part of the deal.

City have been linked with a number of players his month, including young Chelsea midfielder Sam Rak-Sakyi and experienced Crystal Palace man Jeffrey Schlupp, who can play in a number of positions on the left and in midfield.

Asked at today’s pre-match press conference ahead of the weekend’s CBS Arena clash with Watford if the club are anywhere near getting any new players in, Lampard said: “No, not at this period in time. There’s nothing I can tell you that’s imminent.”

Asked about Matondo at Rangers and what the situation is regarding the Wales international, he said: “I’m not going to speak about that one today. He’s a Rangers player and I think it’s respectful to not speak about that one at this point.”

The head coach has admitted that he would like to draft in “help” in the current transfer window, in particular on the wings where he has limited options due to the injuries to Haji Wright and Ephron Mason-Clark, and also in midfield where skipper Ben Sheaf is out for several weeks.
