Frank Lampard continues to remain coy about Coventry City’s plans in the transfer window but has made two admissions in terms of his intentions.

Firstly, he revealed that he’s keen to recruit help on the wings amid the current shortage due to injuries, and, secondly, that he intends to keep his best players at the club for the remainder of the season at least.

Asked if there is any news on new signings, the head coach said: “No, nothing yet, I’ve been focused on this phase of games so I think we’ll focus on that as we go on. If we can help the squad, we will. We saw the changes Norwich can make to affect the game, we also want that to maybe try to help the squad. We have to see.”

Asked if he’s identified particular positions and whether he has an idea of exactly how many new signings he’d like to make this month, the City boss told CoventryLive: “Yes to positions but not really in terms of a number. There are certain areas of the team, for example at the minute we’ve got wingers injured so it looks like an area where we’re short. But obviously we have Ephron (Mason-Clark) and Haji (Wright) to come back – Haji hopefully in two weeks-ish. By the time he’s fit, probably two to three weeks, and Ephron maybe a bit longer.

“So in the meantime, can we help the squad? We’ll try to. If we can’t then we will keep going with the same character and personality that we showed at Norwich, and if we can help the team, we will.”

As for speculation in the week linking Leeds United with interest in Ben Sheaf and Milan van Ewijk with Galatasaray, Lampard said that he wanted to keep his best players together.

And asked if there is anything in the speculation, he said: “No, only that I knew that they’re rumours I’ve heard them as you have, so yeah, I want to keep the players here.”
