Freddie Flintoff is back on our screens tonight as host of rebooted darts quiz show Bullseye, two years on from suffering serious injuries in a horrific car crash.

The England cricket legend was named as the presenter for a special Christmas version of the iconic show earlier this year and admitted he "couldn't believe" he had landed the role having grown up watching it.

“I love the darts and Bullseye was one of my favourite shows as a kid," Flintoff said after he was confirmed for the ITV role. "Can't quite believe I'll get to host this Christmas special. You can't beat a bit of Bully!”

The 47-year-old returned to TV earlier this year with the second series of his hit BBC show Freddie Flintoff's Field of Dreams, which followed him as he returned to his hometown of Preston to try and create a brand-new cricket team of teenagers, before taking them on a tour of India.

He had taken a long hiatus from TV work having been involved in a life-changing accident while filming for Top Gear in December 2022, which later led him to quit his role as a co-host on the iconic BBC show.

Flintoff - who hosted the show alongside Chris Harris and Paddy McGuinness - had been driving an open-topped three-wheeled car at 130mph around the show's test track when it later flipped over in icy conditions. The former cricketing ace had no airbag in the vehicle and suffered several broken ribs, while he was left with horrific facial scars having had his face dragged along the tarmac.

He was then rushed to hospital, with his wife Rachael rushing from their family home in Altrincham, Greater Manchester to the hospital in Surrey to be with him. Flintoff then reportedly underwent four hours of surgery as surgeons battled to fix the significant facial injuries he had suffered.

After arriving at the hospital, Rachael was reportedly told by a surgeon to "expect the worst" as her husband's condition remained uncertain.

Following the crash, Flintoff was left with large facial scars along the side of his nose and across his chin, but it was the psychological scars that he suffered with most. He later admitted that he had been struggling with anxiety, nightmares and flashbacks months after the accident.

After leaving his position on Top Gear and agreeing a huge compensation settlement with the BBC, Flintoff has returned to both TV and cricket over the past year. After working as an assistant coach with England's white-ball sides and taking charge of the Northern Superchargers' men's team in The Hundred, he was named as the new head coach of the England Lions.

In the role, Flintoff oversees a development side for up-and-coming players in English cricket and has already named his son Rocky in his squad for their tour of Australia in the new year. The 16-year-old signed his first professional deal for Lancashire in the summer and has been widely tipped to follow in his dad's footsteps and one day earn full international honours.

Flintoff senior has been aided in his recovery by former model Rachael, who reportedly "begged" him to stay off work and recover following the life-changing crash. The couple have been married since 2005, having met three years earlier, and now have four children together.
