Fresh Douglas Luiz transfer twist emerges after Aston Villa linked with surprise reunion
Aston Villa have been credited with an interest in bringing Douglas Luiz back to the club this month - just half a season after they bid an emotional farewell to the midfielder. Brazilian international Luiz was in part sacrificed by Villa in the summer as they fought against the threat of PSR sanctions and he made the switch to Italy.
Things haven't gone to plan, though, in Turin; Luiz has made only two Serie A starts, while struggling with injuries, and hasn't started a Champions League game. There have regularly been reports coming out of Italy that he hasn't adapted quickly enough and that the level of performance produced by the midfielder has underwhelmed.
Luiz made 204 appearances for Villa after joining the club upon their promotion, from Manchester City, in 2019. He cost the club around £15m but excelled and proved that transfer fee to be a bargain over time. While at Villa Park, Luiz helped the club reach the Europa Conference League and Champions League under Unai Emery and he scored 20 Premier League goals.

Still only 26, he signed a five-year deal with Juve in the summer which runs until 2029 but a departure in January is likely after an underwhelming first half of the season; Luiz has been linked with a return to Villa as well as to another former side in Manchester City. Manchester United, too, have been credited with an interest.
Now, the Mail Online reports that Nottingham Forest have enquired about the prospect of a loan agreement with Juve this month; Nuno Espirito Santo has Forest extremely well placed at the halfway point in the season, well in contention for a Champions League place and having led them most recently to six straight victories. In order to continue their pursuit of European football, Forest have reportedly looked into bringing Luiz back to the Midlands.
