Arsenal return to Premier League action this evening as they take on Brentford in their first match of 2025.

Mikel Arteta's side make the trip to the Gtech Community Stadium on New Year's Day looking to secure another precious three points in their quest to win the league title. Arsenal are currently in second place and would leapfrog Nottingham Forest into third with a win over the Bees.

The Gunners are nine points behind leaders Liverpool in the Premier League table going into the clash against Brentford. Victory would see that gap reduced to six, although Arsenal would have then played a game more than the Merseyside club.

Arteta will be forced to go into the game against Brentford without several first-team players being available for selection. Bukayo Saka is one of the notable absentees, as the forward continues to recover from a serious hamstring injury.

Raheem Sterling is also sidelined with a knee injury, but Arteta expressed optimism that the forward is not too far away from a return. Takehiro Tomiyasu and Ben White remain unavailable for selection due to their respective injury concerns.

Riccardo Calafiori is a contender to start for Arsenal, though, after being restricted to just three appearances across the last ten Premier League matches due to a knee injury.
