Veterans Kasper Schmeichel and Craig Gordon are just two of 120 players whose contracts expire next summer.

And with the January transfer window set to swing open, clubs up and down the country will have to make some ruthless decisions. Cash-rich Celtic have the least about to worry about, with only two players out of contract and bundles cash to spend on reinforcements. Across the city, Rangers also have most of their top names tied down on long-term deals - unlike previous years when the likes of Alfredo Morelos, Ryan Kent and John Lundstram have all walked out of the door for nothing.

Aberdeen started the season on fire but the uncertainty surrounding the futures of Duk, Jamie McGrath and Nicky Devlin may have played a part in their recent collapse in form. City rivals Dundee and Dundee United have experienced very different campaigns so far, with the Tangerines punching well above their weight and the Dees struggling to replicate last term's heroics that secured a famous top six spot.

There could be an end-of-season exodus at both clubs, which is a common theme throughout the Scottish Premiership, with Kilmarnock, Motherwell, Ross County, St Johnstone and St Mirren all staring at mass departures. Relegation-threatened Hearts will be preparing for life without Lawrence Shankland, while the rebuild at Hibs will continue well into next year with several players set to be released.
