Manchester United return to Premier League action at home to Newcastle on Monday evening.

Ruben Amorim's side will be looking to avoid a fourth straight defeat in all competitions and a third consecutive league defeat when they face Eddie Howe's high-flying team. Newcastle have won their last four matches but have only won once at Old Trafford in 52 years.

Amorim will go into the game knowing that he will need to make at least two enforced changes to his midfield. Both Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte are suspended.

Fernandes was sent off against Wolves last time out, whilst Ugarte received his fifth booking of the campaign to trigger an automatic one-match ban.

With United captain Fernandes unavailable against the Magpies, Amorim has opened the door for Harry Maguire to regain the captaincy for one game at least.

“He’s working really well. He’s focused on the job, not what people say," the former Sporting boss said after the Wolves defeat.

“He has no excuses - even if he’s had some tough moments. In that respect, he’s an example. He’s there to play to help the team and he’s trying to do that.”

Victor Lindelof meanwhile has missed United's last two matches after making a return from injury against Manchester City earlier this month. No reason for Lindelof's absence has been given after he was substituted at half-time against Tottenham on December 19, and it remains to be seen when the centre-back will return to the squad.

Marcus Rashford also remains a doubt for the game with Amorim choosing not to include the English forward in his last four matchday squads.
