Celtic fell short against Bayern Munich but Hoops fans held their heads high on the Hotline.

And they have not given up hope Brendan Rodgers' men can pull off a Champions League miracle at the Allianz next week.

Eddie Easson, Ballingry, said: “It wasn’t to be for Celtic but what a fighting performance they gave. There is no disgrace in an odd goal defeat to one of the best teams in the world. Bayern deserved their victory. At least Celtic can go to Germany with their heads held high.”

Stephen Mulhern, Dumbarton, said: “For Celtic to then go toe to toe with the potential winners and lose by a single goal tells you about the significant progress we have made in Europe's elite league this season. I m hoping Daizen Maeda will play through the middle and unleash Jota from the start for us to progress.”

Kenny Wilson, Moffat, said: “An excellent disciplined performance from Celtic against a top team who are many levels above us. Defensively far better and they still carried a threat on the counter attack. It’s still a huge mountain to climb but they kept themselves in the tie and every player gave 100 percent. "You can’t ask for more than that although it will be a tough night in Munich and they will need a huge effort from every player once again.”

Richard Wharton, Carlisle, said: “The old saying ‘We wuz robbed’ (our backpage the day after Seville in 2003) springs to mind. Too many major calls were given against Celtic and they talk about our Scottish refs!”

But Neil Renton, Leith, said: “How on earth was Harry Kane left unmarked at a corner and able to score against Celtic? It’s silly mistakes like that which make it men against Bhoys.”

George Wilson, West Sussex, said: “Getting handed nine points at home against the three worst teams in the competition is one thing but against the likes of Dortmund, Aston Villa and Bayern Munich Celtic were hopelessly outclassed.

“And spare us the usual reply of Rangers only being in the Mickey Mouse competition. We have played teams at least equal to those that Celtic played to reach the last 16 in the European League.”

And James Brown, Glasgow, said: “As a Celtic fan, I was very disappointed with Bayern Munich’s performance against Celtic. Bayern failed to hit the heights that Queens Park reached against Rangers last Sunday.”

Rangers boss Philippe Clement

Speaking of Rangers, Philippe Clement is still in a gig despite supporters reaching the end of their tether last weekend.

Paul McArdle, Gourock, said: “Clement was seven points clear at the top of the Premiership and on course for an automatic £60m Champions League jackpot.

“He blew the league, lost the Scottish Cup Final, blew the Champions League qualifiers, lost another cup final, blew another league and knocked out another cup early. He's STILL there!

“Now tell me Rangers are not absolutely skint.”

Jamie Thompson, Yoker, said: “Kieran Dowell has now said he loves playing positive football – the style Rangers are playing is utterly garbage.

“It’s boring and predictable. This is another reason for getting rid of Clement.

"Supporters are sick of his football and most of these current players lack basic football skills. It all adds up to a really poor team.”

Frank Jackson emailed: Having just had the worst result in their history a number of Rangers fans want to see Slippy G reinstated as manager.

“Really? What is required is an elite coach who will be worth backing and given five years to overhaul everything about the shambles that is there now.”
