A Donegal footballer has landed a huge cash prize in a GAA club draw that raised a massive amount of money.

The Glenswilly club started selling tickets for the draw as far back as last June and the draw took place at the weekend.

And the top prize of €25,000 was won by Leeza Cunningham from Glencolmcille.

She is a 22-year-old student in Galway and is also a member of the Donegal senior ladies squad.

What was particularly remarkable was the amount of money raised by the draw.

After paying out all the prizes, Glenswilly still have a surplus of over €300,000.

To put that in the context of Irish sport, League of Ireland champions picked up a cheque of €125,000 in prize money for winning the title last season.

Glenswilly's windfall shows the ability of GAA clubs to raise serious money on the ground, but it took a huge amount of hours put in by volunteers selling tickets to do so.

Glenswilly is the club that produced two All-Ireland winning heroes in 2012 in Donegal captain Michael Murphy and midfielder Neil Gallagher.

The prize money will be invested in facilities to try and help produce future footballing heroes.
