Gary Lineker agrees with Krystian Bielik amid Birmingham City prediction
Gary Lineker has tipped Birmingham City not only to prove they are too good for League One but to thrive if, or when, they are promoted next season.
Speaking on the Rest is Football podcast the former England striker was commenting on Blues’ 3-2 defeat to Newcastle United, a thrilling match and affirming spectacle that showcased the best of the club.
Lineker was in the Match of the Day studio as two goals from Joe Willock and one from Callum Wilson cancelled out strikes from Ethan Laird and Tomoki Iwata. But overall Blues gave much-changed Newcastle as much as they could handle.

All of which prompted the 64-year-old to deliver a glowing assessment – and evoke memories of Krystian Bielik ’s claim earlier in the season that Blues are too good for the third tier.
Lineker said: “You can see why they they're top of league. They're too good for that league. They will probably do quite well in the Championship as well and they've got obviously good financial backing.”
Colleague Alan Shearer was also impressed with Blues, adding: “It was a hard fought victory. It wasn't free flowing football. I don't think it ever was going to be because Birmingham did really well. They’ve got some good players and made it difficult.
“The crowd was up for it, the players responded to the crowd, so it's always going to be tough and Newcastle had to work so hard for it.”
