Former captain Gary Neville believes Ruben Amorim will be 'happy' with how his first three games in charge of Manchester United have unfolded.

The United head coach, who was poached from Sporting Lisbon last month, oversaw his second win in charge on Sunday afternoon, watching his side beat Everton 4-0 at Old Trafford via goals from Marcus Rashford (2) and Joshua Zirkzee (2).

It marked a second consecutive victory for the 39-year-old after his side recovered from 2-1 down to beat Bodo/Glimt 3-2 in the Europa League last Thursday evening.

Amorim, who has made no secret of the fact he wants to see improvements from his team, has overseen two wins and a draw in his first three games at the helm. Sunday's win over Everton lifted United into the top half of the table and to within four points of the coveted Champions League qualification spots.

However, Neville is refusing to get carried away by the positive nature of Amorim's first three results, insisting United are a "long way off" from where they want to get to under the recently appointed 39-year-old.

Neville, appearing on his Sky Sports podcast, said: "Obviously it was a good win. Coming back in midweek and winning, Ruben Amorim will be happy.

"They're a long way off, no doubt about that, but they've gone up into the top half of the table. They're only four or five points off the top four, which is mad really but I don't think they're quite at that level yet to give anybody confidence that they can get there.

"The teams that are above them, particularly in the top six are well ahead of them in terms of performance levels. But he'll be happy at the end of his first week of matches."
