One look at the Premier League table would suggest that Liverpool are overwhelming favourites to progress to a place in Carabao Cup final against Newcastle United. After all, they sit a huge 29 points above tonight's semi-final opponents Tottenham Hotspur.

That said, Ange Postecoglou's injury-hit team do lead from the first leg at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, courtesy of a controversial Lucas Bergvall winner, while recent history may not be on Liverpool's side.

Still, most neutrals will feel that the holders can overcome that 1-0 deficit and book their spot in the Wembley showpiece for the second year running.

But Gary Neville is not one of those neutrals - if you can call him that. No, the Manchester United legend believes that destiny could be on Tottenham's side on what he predicts could be an "emotional, mad night".

Asked for his pre-match thoughts on The Overlap US, Neville said: “I think Tottenham. I think Tottenham are going to get a draw.

“I don’t know how they’re going to get a draw at Anfield, but I feel like it’s going to be an emotional, mad night where something happens.

“Postecoglou said earlier on in the season (that he always win something in his second year) in charge… I’m maybe not hanging my hat on what he’s saying entirely, but I’ve just got a feeling Tottenham…I’ve got a feeling Tottenham could win the Carabao Cup this season.

“And I’ve got a feeling that, to be fair, they’re always going to have to come through a moment like this.

“It will be absolute Liverpool favourites, but I feel somehow Tottenham are going to get a draw by hook or by crook.”

Now while Neville is one of football's most respected pundits, he has got it wrong about the Reds in the past. For instance, at the start of the season he predicted that Liverpool, under new head coach Arne Slot, would finish below his beloved Man United and outside of the top four.

While he was not the only person to wonder what life would be like at Anfield in the post-Jurgen Klopp era, Slot and his players have emphatically silenced the doubters.

The Reds currently sit top of the Premier League, six points clear of second-placed Arsenal, who have played one match more.

As well as being within touching distance of Wembley in the Carabao Cup, they are also through to the fourth round of the FA Cup and into the round of 16 in the Champions League after winning the new-look league phase with seven victories from eight.

Newcastle secured their spot in the Carabao Cup final with a 4-0 aggregate victory over Arsenal last night.
