Jamie Carragher returned to Sky Sports with a bang, winning a bet against Gary Neville which will see the Manchester United legend wear a Liverpool shirt.

Carragher returned to the network on Tuesday night, after disciplinary action saw the former Liverpool defender suspended for a spitting incident for the final two months of last season.

After meeting with the top brass at Sky, it was agreed that Carragher would return for the start of the domestic season and he featured prominently in Sky’s Premier League preview show alongside Neville.

The duo became embroiled in a penalty competition during the show, with Neville insisting they bet on the outcome. Whoever lost would have to wear the shirt of their bitter rivals – United for Carragher and Liverpool for Neville.

Neville went first and saw his penalty cannon off the backside of Carragher and bounce wide. Carragher then stepped up and despite admitting he wasn’t a great penalty-taker – and getting abuse from host Dave Jones for missing a penalty in the 2006 World Cup quarter-final – he calmly slotted it past Neville.

Carragher went on to rub further salt into Neville wounds by saying he would get a shirt with Xherdan Shaqiri on the back, a player Neville has been highly critical of in recent weeks.

Both Carragher and Neville will be pundits as Sky broadcast Manchester United v Leicester City on Friday night, the opening game of the season, but Neville will wait for a future game to don the Liverpool shirt.
