Gary Neville's Anfield fear speaks volumes as Liverpool prepares for crunch Man Utd test
Gary Neville has voiced his concerns as Liverpool prepares to take on Manchester United at Anfield.
The game will proceed as planned following a second meeting of Liverpool City Council's Safety Advisory Group following concerns after snow fell across the country overnight. However as the countdown to this highly-anticipated clash continues, a troubling statistic hangs over Ruben Amorim's side.
The Red Devils have failed to score at Anfield since their disappointing 3-1 loss in December 2018. Adding to their woes, United's last victory at Anfield came nine years ago, in January 2016, when Wayne Rooney’s solitary strike secured a hard-fought win.

Neville expressed serious concern for United following their 2-0 defeat at home to Newcastle on Monday night. The loss marked their fourth consecutive defeat under Amorim, who took charge in November 2024. The Old Trafford legend didn’t hold back in his assessment, highlighting the alarming trend of poor performances and results
“Do we have to go to Anfield on Sunday” joked Neville. “Do you remember in the old days when Sunday League teams wouldn’t turn up because they said the traffic was bad or a few players were unwell?
“Obviously, joking aside, I’ve no idea how they approach this game on Sunday. Manchester United have found this fixture very tough in recent years.
“The 7-0, I was there watching it to the bitter end like many Manchester United fans were. You’re fearing not necessarily of that, but you’re wondering what Ruben Amorim can do? He can point to the Manchester City performance, but I genuinely don’t know.”
Should Arne Slot's side beat United, they will go eight points clear at the top of the Premier League table after second-place Arsenal dropped points in a 1-1 draw against Brighton.
United, meanwhile, is languishing in 14th position in the table, 23 points off top spot having played a game more than Liverpool.
