Geovany Quenda has recently emerged as a target for Manchester United. The 17-year-old winger has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford ever since Ruben Amorim replaced Erik ten Hag in the dugout.

Quenda, who sees his contract at the Jose Alvalade Stadium expire in June 2027, has featured 19 times for Sporting in the Primeira Liga this season, scoring one goal and providing three assists. Playing a key role in Rui Borges' side, the Portugal Under-21 international has helped the Portuguese giants climb to first in the table.

His impressive performances – whether it be on the left or the right – haven't gone under the radar. So, with that being said, the Manchester Evening News rounds up everything you need to know about Quenda and a potential move to United.

United begin to monitor Quenda's development

The Manchester Evening News understands that United started tracking Quenda in November after he burst onto the scene at Sporting. Amorim handed the teenager his Portuguese top-flight debut in August 2024, featuring at right wing-back in a 3-1 win over Rio Ave.

Quenda and his relationship with Amorim

After Amorim's final game in charge at Sporting, Quenda congratulated the new United boss on his move to Old Trafford. On his Instagram story, he wrote: "Thank you for believing in me and letting me play for the club I love, big hug and good luck in the future [green heart, watery eyes and fist bump emoji]."

Quenda was thrown into the deep end by the Portuguese tactician, quickly becoming a key player for Sporting. He's become a mainstay in the starting lineup, appearing in the frontline and at wing-back.

Quenda breaks Ronaldo record

Quenda became the youngest-ever scorer in the Portuguese top-flight (17 years, five months and 26 days old) when he fired Sporting to victory in a 3-0 win over Famalicão back in October. By doing so, he surpassed Cristiano Ronaldo (17 years, eight months and two days old) and Simao (17 years, six months and 15 days old).

When Quenda met Ronaldo...

Quenda joined Ronaldo on Portugal international duty in September last year, when he was called up for Nations League clashes against Scotland and Croatia. On meeting the teenager, the Al-Nassr striker and Manchester United legend said: "Many of them are embarrassed to talk to me.

"A little while ago I was going up to my room and I saw the new boy, 17 years old, Quenda. I went to him and said: 'So, have you recovered from the game?'. I saw that he was embarrassed. I don't say I'm a father, but an older brother.

"It could be a father to some and, as I said before, I've been through the same thing as them and the national team is a family. We're focusing on the Nations League, which is a fun competition and one that Portugal wants to win."

Quenda to replace Man City star

During the same international break, Bernardo Silva claimed Quenda could one day take his place in the Portugal starting lineup. Speaking at a press conference, the Manchester City star said: "As for Quenda, he will probably take my place.

"But he is part of the national team, certain players leave, new people come in and generations change. It is impressive to see the level Quenda is at at this age. I didn't play for Benfica's youth team. It wasn't for the juniors, it was for the youth team. I didn't play for Benfica's youth team.

"Seeing him at 17 years old representing Sporting and the national team, it is because he deserves it and has the skills to be here. If he continues, he will certainly reach greater heights than he is at now."

United 'agree to sign Quenda'

According to Portuguese outlet A BOLA, United have agreed a deal with Sporting to sign Quenda – which is thought to be worth around €60m (£50.2m). Meanwhile, The Athletic have suggested that a move is 'more likely' to happen in the summer considering no official talks have taken place so far, just 'conversations'.
