Germany 2-2 Hungary LIVE! England next in last-16 - Euros result, highlights, latest news and reaction
Germany survived an almighty scare to take a point off Hungary and set up a mouthwatering last-16 clash with England at Wembley next week.
Joachim Low’s side twice trailed the Group F outsiders but Leon Goretzka’s late strike ensured they earned the draw which sees them finish in second-place, ahead of Portugal on head-to-head.
The result was harsh in the extreme on Hungary, who were given little hope of getting out of the so-called Group of Death, but held world champion France to a draw and came so close to beating Germany in their own backyard.
While there were last-16 places at stake, the pre-match build-up was dominated by UEFA’s rejection of a proposal by Munich authorities to lught up the Allianz Arena in rainbow colours to protest an anti-LGBTQ law recently passed in Hungary.
Despite UEFA’s decision, there were plenty of flags and banners in the stands, while a protestor invaded the pitch carrying the rainbow flag during the national anthems.
