Gerwyn Price admits he's WORST loser in darts as he reveals mind games helping him back to the top
Honest Gerwyn Price admits he’s darts' WORST loser.
The Welshman is returning to some of his best form and made it to the last 16 of the Winmau World Masters with an easy win over Florian Hempel. Price had a spell during last year when he confessed he’d fallen out of love with the sport. The Iceman has spoken to a sports psychologist to help him and insists his mindset is right with the smile back.
Asked about the move, Price said: “No, it didn’t come easy. I’ve had it up in the past. I spoke to a sort of sports psychologist a couple of years ago and that didn’t help because I was overthinking. I was doing certain things that I shouldn’t do and I was overthinking too much and it didn’t help my game. But then I spoke to somebody this time and it helped. So it doesn’t work for everyone, but it worked for me this time.”

It was put to Price he could be too hard on himself and he added: “Yeah, every time. I mean, if you’re not hard on yourself, you’re not going to improve. I absolutely hate losing. People call me a bad loser. I’m the worst, so I agree to it. I hate losing. If someone’s a good loser and they like losing, they don’t deserve to play the game.”
Price is smiling again and said: “The last couple of years I haven’t enjoyed things. Having a couple of months off just before the World Championship has helped and probably give me the love back for the game.
“It’s nice to just be playing well and enjoying the game again. Missing out on a Grand Slam, a tournament I love, that really hurts. Just sitting in the house and watching that tournament, that hurts.
“If I’m enjoying the game, I’m going to play well and I’m going to do well. So that’s all I want to do.
“I feel like I’m in the best place for a couple of years leading up to the Premier League. I’m in a great position. I’m feeling confident. I’m looking forward to getting on the road and doing the travelling, which I haven’t done for a long time.”
