Gerwyn Price has got his eyes on the ultimate prize at the PDC World Darts Championship after making it through to the quarter-finals, vowing the best is yet to come.

The Ice Man made it through to the last eight after seeing off fellow Welshman Jonny Clayton with a 4-2 win in the fourth round, and will now face Chris Dobey for a place in the semi-finals.

Price has tasted glory at Alexandra Palace before, winning the 2021 World Championships by beating Gary Anderson in the final. He has given himself a chance of repeating the feat in this year's competition, having admitted he will be "tough to beat" if he can hit his top form again.

“I felt like I was playing really well in the first two sets, but I don’t know what happened after that,” said Price after beating Clayton. “I probably wasn’t myself up on the stage today, but I’ll be myself from the quarter-final onwards.

“I know that if I play like I did in the first two sets for the rest of the tournament, then I’m going to be tough to beat.”

As he goes for glory again, here are some things you may not know about the 39-year-old's life away from the oche.

Huge net worth

As a former world champion who also has three Grand Slams, a World Grand Prix and two World Series Finals under his belt, Price has accumulated a huge personal wealth over the course of his darts career.

Heading into the 2024 PDC World Darts Championship, his net worth was estimated to be between £2-3 million, having banked a total of £4.26 million in career earnings according to PDPA records.

He has already secured a further £50,000 by making it through to the quarter-finals of this year's tournament at Ally Pally.

Price has reportedly put his earnings to good use, investing in several properties in his hometown of Markham, including a fish and chip shop.

The darts ace has also splashed out on the man cave of dreams, having converted his basement at his home in Markham into an incredible room complete with a cinema area, planetarium ceiling, snooker and pool tables, oche and a fully stocked bar.

Supportive wife

Price has been married to his wife Bethan since 2018, having met each other when they were both 17 years old.

Together, they have two children together - Emily and Bethany - with Bethan reportedly acting as an advisor to her husband in her role as a sports manager.

While she lives a more private life than Price, she is quite often seen showing her support for the darts star, and was left in tears after his epic third-round win over Joe Cullen at the weekend.

After Price sealed victory, the camera then cut to Bethan who was teary-eyed as she looked towards the stage, before covering her eyes as her hands shook.

Price has previously shown his appreciation to his wife for her love and support, penning a sweet message to her on the occasion of their first anniversary.

"Happy first anniversary to the most amazing wife you could ever wish for, Bethan Price. There’s not many women that would be as understanding easy going and supportive. Love you forever."

Horror pub attack

Prior to becoming a professional darts player, Price was a semi-professional rugby hooker, representing Neath and Cross Keys in union, as well as a short spell with Glasgow Warriors as injury cover for their first choice player.

However, his career in sport was threatened after he "attracted trouble from the wrong people" and was injured in an attack outside a Bargoed pub in 2010, which left him needing a total of 47 stitches on his face.

Speaking to ITV's Against The Odds documentary, Price said: "Whenever I used to go out, for some reason I used to attract trouble or attention from the wrong people. I think I used to be a terror for my mam and dad, bless them, but that's when I was young and immature.

"There was one time in Bargoed, there was an altercation with two boys outside the pub, and one of them caught me from the side when I was talking to his mate, and I fell, cut my face and I think I caught my head on a kerb, so I think that was quite lucky."

The incident left him scarred, but it wasn't the first, as Price added: "This was from when I was out in Blackwood, I was only 17 years of age so I wasn't supposed to be out drinking.

"I can remember speaking to a boy out in a bar, and, out of the blue, for no reason, he pushes a pint glass in my face.

"I can't be doing with this hassle any more," he added. " I'd rather just have an easy life. I have kids. I had to settle down, and you change a little bit. I have changed for the better."
