Giorgi Mamardashvili injury update as incoming Liverpool star issues huge hint on return date
Giorgi Mamardashvili has confirmed he is back in training following a thigh injury. The Valencia goalkeeper, who will join Liverpool this summer, sustained the issue while playing against Rayo Vallecano last month.
The Georgian international signed for the Reds for £29million in August but an agreement was reached to keep him with the La Liga side until the end of the season. Mamardashvili, who impressed for Georgia at Euro 2024, kept three clean sheets in 14 matches before picking up the muscle injury on December 7.
In a club statement at the time, Valencia said: "Giorgi Mamardashvili has been diagnosed with an injury to the rectus femoris of his right leg, sustained in the match against Rayo Vallecano at Mestalla. The club's medical services have decided that the goalkeeper will continue with medical treatment and physiotherapy at the Ciudad Deportiva."

It has been a month since Mamardashvili sustained the problem but the future Reds 'keeper appears to be closing in on a return to action. In an Instagram story, Mamardashvili posted two images of him back in training as he prepares to get back to full fitness for the remainder of the season.
In the caption, he tagged Valencia alongside a fire emoji and flexed biceps emoji.
Mamardashvili has missed Valencia's last five matches, including Friday's 2-1 defeat to Real Madrid, but it's unknown when he will return. Valencia are back in action when they face Eldense in the Copa del Rey on Tuesday, before making the trip to Sevilla in La Liga this weekend.
It's set to be an important couple of months for Mamardashvili as he prepares for his summer move to Liverpool. Back in November, Georgia coach David Webb said he believes Mamardashvili is the "perfect fit" for the Reds.
"Giorgi just feels like a perfect fit for Liverpool," Webb told GiveMeSport. "He's an outstanding shot stopper. He commands his box. He's very athletic, not only big but strong as well.
"And one of his best attributes, which I suppose Liverpool fans may not know, is his character. He's got a very, very strong character. He's an extremely hard worker and is determined to get right to the top.
"Although he joined Valencia from Dinamo Tbilisi, he was on loan at Locomotive Tbilisi, a relatively small club in Georgia, before moving to Spain," Webb continued. "To go from there to a regular La Liga starter in 12 months is quite incredible. And part of that success is down to his character and mental resilience."
