Giorgi Mamardashvili makes feelings on Khvicha Kvaratskhelia transfer known after Liverpool link
Liverpool will not be signing Khvicha Kvaratskhelia after his request to leave Napoli this month, and a £67.6million (€80million) transfer to Paris Saint-Germain has now been confirmed. Future Red Giorgi Mamardashvili was among the first to congratulate his fellow Georgian international.
As reported by the ECHO last week, Liverpool have held long-standing admiration for the highly-rated 23-year-old, who announced himself on the Champions League stage during a clash between the two clubs. However, a move this January - even after his transfer request - seemed unlikely with Arne Slot already possessing depth and quality in attacking quarters.
And so, the pathway was clear for PSG to wrap-up a winter deal. They did so with a Friday night announcement as Kvaratskhelia signed a four-and-a-half year contract and took the club's No.7 shirt.

While not outright confirmed by the French giants, reports in their country and Napoli's have stated the full fee to be £59.1million (€70million) up front plus £8.5million (€10million) in add-ons, while Kvaratskhelia will earn up to five times more than his previous £1.6million (€2million) annual salary.
Speaking afterwards, the winger said: "It's an honour to be able to wear the PSG shirt. It was a dream for me to play for one of the biggest teams in the world.
"I'm very proud, it's a dream and we're going to fight together to fulfil our dreams. I'm very happy.
"The project is what convinced me to come here. I know what the club wants to achieve and how it works.
"That's in-line with who I am. A lot of great players have played here, so I didn't think much about it when I had the opportunity to come to Paris."
Had Liverpool's intention been to challenge the French outfit in the transfer market, there would have been the possibility of seeing both Georgian talents, Kvaratskhelia and Mamardashvili, take to the Anfield turf together. Nonetheless, the goalkeeper was congratulatory of the transfer - sending a classy three-word message via social media platform Instagram, which read: "Good luck brother."
Mamardashvili will shake up the Reds' goalkeeping department this summer when he eventually arrives, one year on from the £30million agreement made with Spanish club Valencia. Alisson is currently Slot's first choice between the posts, while back-up Caoimhin Kelleher has previously been vocal about finding regular action, whether that be at Anfield or elsewhere.
