Globetrotting Belfast football coach announces latest job in Far East

Colum Curtis has travelled the world to become a leading football coach, and now the Belfast native is preparing for his next challenge.

Curtis has worked in countries including China, Cambodia and the Philippines. He has also won countless trophies during his time with clubs such as Kaya-Iloilo FC where became the first Irishman to coach a team in the Asian Champions League.

The Blacks Road native's stock has gradually been on the rise, and his next football challenge will be with Bangkok FC. Curtis has been confirmed as the Thai club's new Sporting Director.

Curtis said on Facebook: "I’m delighted that I’ve officially started my new role as Sporting Director at Bangkok FC. In my first few days, I've been made very welcome to the Bangkok FC family, and I look forward to contributing to the fantastic work that everyone at the club has done over the past few years.

"A huge thank you to the boss Paul Amatavivadhana for placing your trust in me."

Curtis was part of the coaching staff at Svay Rieng FC in Cambodia that won the league title in 2019. That success paved the way for a move to Visakha FC where he delivered the 2020 Hun Sen Cup - the first major trophy in the club's history.

The 35-year-old went on to guide Kaya-Iloilo FC to the Philippines version of the FA Cup.

Bangkok FC said: "Bangkok FC welcomes Colum Curtis to take over as Sporting Director to help uplift the team according to the set goals.

"Colum Curtis, Northern Ireland coach with a UEFA Pro License degree, passed his position as an assistant coach at Svay Rieng in the Cambodia League in 2019 and started as a head coach at Visakha FC in 2019-2021 before moving to take charge of Kaya FC in the Philippine League.

"He also went through to take charge of AFC Champions League level before joining the current Bangkok FC."
