Gloucester-Hartpury win Trailfinders thriller - women's rugby round-up
Gloucester-Hartpury survived an almighty scare to take a narrow 33-31 PWR victory over Trailfinders at Kingsholm.
After the first quarter, things looked comfortable as a charge down try from Natasha Hunt, followed by a nicely worked score finished off by Mackenzie Carson propelled them into an 14-0 lead, Lleucu George converting both scores.
Trailfinders hit back as tries from Tori Wood and Tyson Beukeboom got them back to within two points at 14-12, but Hunt got in for her second with a sharp snipe from close range to get her over, George’s conversion extending the lead to 21-12 at half time.

Gloucester-Hartpury appeared to have taken control of the game when Pip Hendy stormed in for a try as she picked up the ball on halfway before skinning the cover defence and dotting down - but referee, Nikki O’Donnell judged that there was an infringement in the build-up and the score was chalked off.
Trailfinders then crossed for their third soon after, Wood with her second score taking the score to 21-17 and the sides then traded scores, with Trailfinders briefly taking the lead thanks to Alivia Leatherman’s converted score before Neve Jones’ try on the hour got The Circus back in front at 26-24.
Gloucester-Hartpury delivered what felt like the hammer blow when Metcalfe’s sharp finish in the corner and George’s extras put daylight between the two sides, with the scoreline reading 33-24 heading into the final five minutes.
But Trailfinders then came close to pulling off the most unlikely of comebacks as Elizabeth Musgrove showed a clean pair of heels to evade the covering Gloucester-Hartpury defence and touch down, taking the scores to 33-31.
Gloucester-Hartpury went through the phases in the 22 but full-back Chloe Rollie picked off a wide pass and sprinted into the home side’s half.
Trailfinders worked their way into the 22 but with the try line in sight, they knocked the ball on with the clock in the red, bringing the game to a close.
