George Skivington bid to console Gloucester Rugby fans following confirmation star back Santi Carreras turned down a new contract offer at Gloucester Rugby to join West Country derby rivals Bath Rugby next season.

Carreras, 26, arrived at Gloucester Rugby mid-way through the 2020-21 season and has since gone on to represent the Cherry and Whites 77 times over the last four seasons, scoring 256 Premiership points including 21 tries, and was voted Coaches’ Player of the Season 2022/23.

Gloucester director of rugby, George Skivington said: “We understand this will be disappointing news for Gloucester supporters. Santi is an incredible talent, a favourite at Kingsholm, and amongst the players and staff. However, despite our best efforts, Santi has made the decision to take on a new challenge for him and his family, and we of course respect his decision.

“Santi is and will remain a Gloucester player until the conclusion of the 2024/25 season and I know he will give everything to the shirt until that time.”

Carreras, who has 53 caps for Argentina, added: "I am very grateful to Gloucester Rugby for giving me the opportunity to come and play in the Premiership, I have really enjoyed my time in the cherry and white colours.

“Playing at Kingsholm and in front of the Shed, to whom I want to make a special mention of thanks for all the love they have shown me, and know that they will always have a place in my heart. These are memories I will never forget.

"It will sadden me to leave at the end of the season, but I feel that now is the right time in my career to try something new and take on a fresh challenge.

"I am looking forward to finishing my time at Gloucester in the best possible way, and I'm excited to see what we can achieve together this season."
