'Going down with a whimper' - fans on Blues' defeat to Tranmere
Carlisle United fans gave us their views on X after the 1-0 defeat at Tranmere Rovers - here's a selection of their comments.
Just when you things cant get any worse they do , players performances are going backwards rather than forward, and a five year old could work out how we play , no variation, Tranmere wanted it we didn't, yet another Saturday ruined (@matty017)
I tried to find positives v Crewe. Unfortunately, I can't find any for today. We were beaten by a team who wanted it more and played to their strengths. We don't and the frustrating thing is a seeming unwillingness to change tactics or formation to try and at least force a point (@CowellLes1975)
Down with a whimper. Tactical masterclass from MW we were awful against another poor side. Our style lets them in whilst we create nothing & look weak at the back. What a mess! (@fish_blues)
Front foot, dominant, attacking football - everything that we aren't. Time's up, surely? (@buzzisbackCUFC)
Really depressing to play so poorly after the energy at Crewe. Losing tackles, muscled off the ball and poor passing (Whelan excepted) coupled with poor finishing will see us relegated. Can Williamson get these players going or is it to be someone else’s job? (@tim_martland)
This is just like this time last year. Players & coaching staff need to have a good hard look at themselves as that was awful to watch, no fight, no passion, no nothing. Just seem to be going through the motions. Just so fed up of constantly loosing & watching poor performances (@skytelimit1970)
I'm more despondent about the chances of staying in the league now than I was at this point in '22. And I was convinced we'd be going down then. (@norraist)
Unless something drastically changes…. And I can’t see that happening… we’re gone. Absolute disaster. (@willtod)
Defeated by a team who played it as a L2 relegation battle and not as a team dreaming of being in the championship! (@barry_maxey)
2 new midfield signings - result was a much poorer performance than at Crewe. Having to bring on Dudik in a desperate attempt to get an equalizer demonstrates the totally wrong recruitment strategy. Only priority in this window should have been strikers. We need goals to save us (@MikeEwins)
Sick of this possession based nonsense, we play everywhere but where it counts, which is in the opposition 18 yard box. There’s no cutting edge and we could’ve played til midnight and still not scored (@Wisey6575)
It feels like a repeat of last year, going down feels inevitable. It’s difficult to see where the results will come from. It seems to be accepted that poor results are ok. There needs to be an immediate change in attitude and approach if we are to stand any chance. (@andrewhoddie)
Piataks tarnishing a lot of the good that they have done at the club by sticking with him.. “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.” (@james10hodgson)
We have no leaders. We’re 100% going down sadly. The fact our owners were still talking about promotion as we sacked Simmo told me they just didn’t get it. (@stewelsh)
3 points out of 12 vs teams around us is relegation form I fear it won't matter who he signs, playing his square pegs in round holes system, getting the stats up by non productive phases of play, inevitably leading to letting teams in to score diabolical goals will be our demise. (@LindaNi121202)
We have good players at the club. BUT they became good players by playing in their correct positions. It's like putting a good sports journalist to do video games journalism. Doesn't work. MW keeps playing players out of position for no good reason. (@RealMrGrumps)
Couldn’t have been a worse day. With results elsewhere we are going down with a whimper. (@TimLarge14)
Like the flag in the Warwick said, sleepwalking into non league. No fight in the squad, no leaders just pure dross. (@ryanstubbs48)
Unless Williamson goes we’re going down Jon… if he was going to improve things it would’ve happened by now, worst Carlisle team I’ve seen in 43 years of watching them (@TonyRob777)
Good coach? Unable to recognise the basic limitations of the players he has. Blind and stubborn. MW is trying to tow a caravan with a Fiat 500. (@881Shane)
Williamson talking psycho-babble re. "players self-reflection." It is utter nonsense. He's out of his depth. Utd are in a dogfight. Players need simple instruction, playing to their strengths, not some intellectual exercise in Clausewitz mind games. (@BruceVander)
I appreciate the Piataks & everything they’ve done but they need support & advice who’s doing that? What’s the DOF doing? It’s time to front up & do something now, as it’s not worked just admit you’ve made a mistake & move on we’d respect them for that. The team has no leadership no grit or determination it’s like they can’t be bothered, heads drop when we concede no confidence & no captain or anyone who’s gonna drag them through i.e. Big Steph or Kev Gray or Soley just no fight that’s the most frustrating thing (@scottieh84)
We're too inconsistent. We lost after playing well against Crewe and lost after an abject performance today. We need wins and sadly Williamson doesn't look like he can inspire the team to get them. I think his time should be up (@ticketaddict)
I'm almost certain any of the other 91 Football League clubs would be actively looking for a new manager now. No need to say more. (@daverigg)
When will the owners get it. If this is their brand of football which they wanted they need to think again. I'm fed up with their inability to make the correct decision now (@Brunton_Barry)
Utterly disgraceful and not a single positive to take away from this! Maybe it's time Clarkson earned his wages and goes to the owners and says this needs to change!! But guess we have good boxes for Fylde at home next season! Feel physically sick: 6 points gap is too much now! (@Darrenblues90)
