Thankfully Chelsea superstar Eden Hazard reminded us why we love football last night, with a quite brilliant goal to settle their Carabao Cup tie with Liverpool.

Elsewhere there was a five-goal thriller between Nottingham Forest and Stoke City, West Ham put eight goals past sorry Macclesfield, Spurs beat Watford on penalties at MK and Arsenal were comfortable victors over Championship contenders.

All those games and goals came after a day dominated by Jose Mourinho and Paul Pogba’s feud at Manchester United.

They still do not like each other, a fact that was further confirmed by a video of them engaged in a very awkward conversation at the start of training.

But Pogba will not be involved in the gossip column today, instead it is a story of contracts – or a lack of them.

Welsh wonder wandering

Aaron Ramsey will leave Arsenal at the end of this season, according to The Mirror.

Contract talks between Ramsey and the Gunners have stopped, despite the club being confident just weeks ago that a deal would be agreed.

It is reported that Ramsey has not turned down a contract, there is just not an offer on the table anymore.

That means that Ramsey, one of the Gunners longest-serving and most important players, will be available on a free transfer come next May.

The same article says that Arsenal turned down a £50m offer for the Welsh international in the summer and is the latest in a number of embarrassing situations regarding contracts at the Emirates.

Mesut Ozil’s deal ran into its last year and he is now earning £350k per week, while Alexis Sanchez had to be sold for a cut-price deal as he contract ran into the final year.

Now Ramsey’s deal is set to run down and Arsenal will not be paid a penny when he leaves, unless there is a dramatic turnaround.

Moyes on tour

David Moyes is lining up his next managerial job – but it will not be on these shores.

French club Nantes, who are currently struggling in Ligue Une, want Moyes as their next boss.

Moyes has been out of work since the end of last season – after guiding West Ham to safety, the Hammers decided to take the club in a different direction.

But the job he did there has enhanced his reputation again and Nantes, who have lost four of their opening seven games, believe he could do a similar job for them.

Miguel Cardoso is still in the hotseat at the Stade de la Beaujoire, but Moyes is on the shortlist of managers who could replace him.

talkLESS

In one of the more bizarre stories of the season so far, West Ham have complained to talkSPORT over some Danny Murphy comments, say the Guardian.

Murphy was highly critical of the Hammers’ reported reluctance to offer starlet Declan Rice a contract representative of his value to the team.

“He is on a very low contract, playing at the top level, dealing with some top players and looking very, very accomplished,” Murphy said. “All of a sudden he’s only got next season on his contract and what, West Ham think the big clubs aren’t watching him now?

“I’m amazed at West Ham, it’s ridiculous for a lad of this talent. It shouldn’t have got to this. You can’t let this happen.”

On the surface, it is just a pundit expressing his opinion and West Ham look a little precious.

The reason why they have got hot under the collar is because Rice’s agent, Neil Fewings, has represented Murphy previously.

Talk about looking for trouble.
