Gossip: Arsenal 'target Kurzawa', PSG 'join Sessegnon race', Rooney 'wants to quit Everton'

Is Ryan Sessegnon set to leave Fulham for France? Or will Liverpool, Tottenham or a Manchester side snare his services?
Is Ryan Sessegnon set to leave Fulham for France? Or will Liverpool, Tottenham or a Manchester side snare his services?

Fabian Delph, Ashley Young, Andy Robertson, Ben Davies. When we consider the sex appeal of the left-backs who have qualified for the Champions League this season, it’s not hard to see why exciting left-sided full-backs are very much in demand right now. And they don’t come much more exciting than Ryan Sessegnon and Layvin Kurzawa.

Paris Saint-Germain’s Kurzawa is reportedly wanted by one of the teams in the top four and two that wish they were. The Mirror – via RMC Sport, the French website from which it currently appears to steals roughly 30 percent of its stories – says Arsenal have “joined” Chelsea and Manchester United in the race to sign the French/Guadeloupean/Polish 25-year-old this summer.

The same paper says United, Manchester City and Tottenham have “been joined” by PSG in the race to sign Fulham’s teenage sensation Sessegnon. Presumably the French champions will only want Sessegnon if they sell Kurzawa, and presumably Sessegnon is more likely to leave Fulham if they don’t get promoted.

And presumably, Arsenal’s transfer targets will depend on who becomes their next manager – a decision which the Telegraph says is edging closer after the Gunners “whittled down” their shortlist of possible Arsene Wenger replacements.

Among the men still standing are Max Allegri, Patrick Vieira and Mikel Arteta, along with Leonardo Jardim and Julian Nagelsmann. But other names are conspicuous by their absence from the Telegraph story, such as Luis Enrique, Carlo Ancelotti and Alan Pardew.

Sam Allardyce isn’t mentioned either, which is unfortunate because the Sun says he will be sacked within the week. Everton “bigwigs” are apparently discussing Big Sam’s future amid speculation among Toffees players that former Watford boss Marco Silva is set to be offered the job.

Rooney set for £12.5m DC United deal

Whoever is in charge at Goodison Park next season, it seems increasingly unlikely they will get to enjoy the pleasure of naming Wayne Rooney on their subs’ bench.

The Mail says Wazza has told Everton he wants to join MLS outfit DC United in a £12.5m deal, although it’s not clear if this figure represents the amount he will be paid or the sum the Toffees will receive for him (if the latter then let the Evertonian celebrations commence).

Adding to the confusion is the Sun’s claim that Rooney’s £300,000-a-week salary in the States will be paid by three clubs – DC United, Everton and Man Utd (who it turns out are still paying their former captain £10m a year).

Meanwhile another expensive forward, Neymar, has held a “secret transfer meeting” with Real Madrid, according to the Express. The Brazilian is allegedly “desperate” to leave PSG and met with Bernabeu official in March to plot an escape route.

Elsewhere, Roma are poised to beat Man Utd to the signing of highly rated Ajax youngster Justin Kluivert (Talksport), Newcastle and Celtic are keen on West Brom’s £15m-rated centre-back Craig Dawson (Mail) and similarly doomed Stoke City will look to sign “Glenn Whelans” in the transfer market this summer as they aim to bounce straight back into the Premier League (Stoke Sentinel). One of the best Glenn Whelans currently on the market is probably the Aston Villa midfielder Glenn Whelan.
