Gossip: Chelsea 'make Pickford top target', Leicester 'to replace £80m Maguire with £35m Lascelles', Palace 'want £20 Ings'

It’s hard to keep up with the all the goalkeepers Chelsea have been linked with in the past few weeks, but the chances are that if they’re an adult male tall enough to touch the crossbar of a full-size goal without standing on tiptoes, they’re being considered.

And a guy who can definitely do that, and much more besides, is England’s World Cup hero Jordan Pickford.

The Everton keeper is the latest name being tipped as the new No.1 at Stamford Bridge, with Sky Sports claiming the shouty Mackem will be the Blues’ “primary target” should Thibaut Courtois leave for Real Madrid. Which, given the amount of time Chelsea are allegedly spending looking at new goalies, one assumes he will be.

Talks over a new contract for the Belgian have apparently “broken down”, although Chelsea’s talks over signing Pickford are unlikely to be much easier. The Toffees are determined to keep the 24-year-old, with the Mirror quoting Toffees fans as threatening “riots” if he is sold.

Leicester target Jamaal Lascelles to replace Maguire

Leicester’s owners are working hard to prevent that eventuality if Harry Maguire leaves their club, by ensuring they receive a ridiculous amount of money for him and then immediately reinvesting it.

The Star says the Foxes have put an £80m price tag on the England defender, up from the £65m quoted a few days ago and the £50m he was allegedly valued at a few days before that. If they can hold out until the end of the transfer window, Maguire could end up costing more than Neymar.

The Sun says Leicester, if they sell Maguire, will replace him instantly with Newcastle centre-back Jamaal Lascelles. The east Midlanders are preparing a £35m bid for the 24-year-old, who the tabloid adds prominently “was born in nearby Derby”. As if that makes a difference to anything.

United are ready to sell Marcos Rojo if they do lure Maguire to Old Trafford, with the Independent reporting that Wolves are keen on the Argentine defender, even though he is not Portuguese.

Quartet chase Danny Ings

Meanwhile, Crystal Palace are leading the chase for Liverpool striker Danny Ings, although the Guardian says the Eagles will have to pay £20m for a man who has scored three Premier League goals in the past three years.

The price tag isn’t putting people off though, with the Times claiming Newcastle, Leicester and Southampton are also keen on signing the 26-year-old.

Elsewhere, Palace winger Wilfried Zaha has fuelled speculation about his Selhurst Park future by posting an ambiguous message on social media (Mail), Aston Villa are on the verge of signing 22-year-old Portuguese goalkeeper Andre Moreira from Atletico Madrid (Sun) and Barcelona will hold talks with West Ham about signing the Hammers’ 18-year-old Portuguese midfielder Domingos Quina (Sky Sports). Irons chairman David Sullivan may insist that Andy Carroll also has to move to the Nou Camp as part of any deal.
