Gossip: Chelsea 'to swap Morata for Higuain', Man Utd 'in Perisic talks', Tottenham 'miss out on Brazilian winger'

The big swap? Morata for Higuain (or vice-versa)

Maurizio Sarri has finally taken over as manager of Chelsea. Now, all that remains is for England to win the World Cup and Donald Trump to be impeached for collusion with the Russians. You just have to keep believing.

And now he is in charge at Stamford Bridge, the Italian is going to go on the biggest spending spree since Melania packed her suitcase for London.

The Express reports that the Blues have already “got to work” to tie up three transfer deals rubber-stamped by their incoming new gaffer.

The first is for the Juventus defender, for whom the west Londoners have made a bid of £30m, and he is allegedly set to be swiftly followed by Roma’s £60m-rated goalkeeper Alisson and CSKA Moscow’s £25m-rated midfielder Aleksandr Golovin.

Sarri also has to solve the problem that his predecessor Antonio Conte created last summer when he texted his best striker, Diego Costa, and informed him he didn’t like him anymore.

The upshot was that Chelsea replaced the defender-terrorising goal machine with Alvaro Morata, who Premier League defenders actually quite liked, and now Sarri is going back to the drawing board.

The Mail says the Blues are “in talks” about swapping Morata for Juve’s Gonzalo Higuain, who Sarri coached for one prolific season at Napoli and likes very much.

The 30-year-old Argentine is valued at £53m by the Serie A champions, but they’ll probably have to check with Cristiano Ronaldo first before they’re allowed to sell him.

Man Utd back in for Ivan Perisic

For the second summer running, Manchester United are sniffing around the Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic after he reminded them this week what they missed out on when they failed to snap him up this time last year.

The Sun claims the Red Devils are in “advanced talks” to sign the man who broke English hearts on Wednesday night – his World Cup semi-final performance having left Jose Mourinho purring, “Perisic is the kind of winger that is different to the others. Normally you look at wingers and they are just fast and creative but he is also physical, very physical, fantastic in the air.”

United’s move for Perisic collapsed last time because Mourinho’s side refused to meet Inter’s £50m asking price. Anyway, predictably they are now being tipped to sign him for £50m.

Possibly boosting United’s chances of landing the 29-year-old is the news, reported by the Times, that Inter are “in pole position” to sign Bordeaux winger Malcom on a season-long loan. This, however, will be rather upsetting for Tottenham who had hoped the 21-year-old Brazilian would sign for them.

A what?
