Gossip: Liverpool 'make contact' with £87m striker, Man United 'face competition' for Ramsey and more
Timo Werner awakes to the dimly throbbing light of the iPhone 8 Plus on his the bedside table. WhatsApp message. He cranes his neck from the pillow to see which girl it’s from, but is slightly perturbed to see that it’s from the same guy that messaged him yesterday morning and the six mornings before that.
Mr Klopp: WUU2?
Werner ignores the message and gets up, has his breakfast, plays a few games of FIFA and it’s not until around 11am when the RB Leipzig striker finally replies: “Nothing much”.
Within three seconds, two blue ticks appear and he sees that “Mr Klopp is typing.” Four minutes later the phone pings again.
“That’s cool How you doin?”

Werner shakes his head in exasperation and wonders if it would be easier if he just gave in and signed for Liverpool.
Because that, according to the Mirror, is Mr Klopp’s plan. The paper reports – via German tabloid Bild – that the Reds manager has been “in regular contact” with Werner as he plots a “stunning £87.5m summer move” for the centre-forward.
As well as bombarding Werner with WhatsApps, Bild says Klopp has also been badgering the player’s agent Karlheinz Forster about the 22-year-old who has scored 39 goals for Leipzig in the past two seasons.
Werner’s stock could rise even higher if he fires Germany to World Cup success this summer, so Liverpool are looking to “splash the cash” before then.
Can demands £200,000 a week
The Reds may also have to splash some more cash to keep another Germany star at Anfield, with the Sun reporting that contract rebel Emre Can is demanding “more than £200,000 a week” to stay at the club.
Manchester City and Juventus have been patiently waiting in the wings to snap up the midfielder for free at the end of the season, but the 24-year-old could yet remain on Merseyside if the club smash their wage structure in his honour. Then cue Can kissing his LFC badge in a photoshoot and boasting about his loyalty.
Antoine Griezmann, aka football’s biggest flirt, has made some more coquettish comments by claiming that he “would love to play with Paul Pogba” (Mail).
However, the Atletico Madrid forward insists this “doesn’t mean I want to join Manchester United!” even though he knows full well the Red Devils have been trying to sign him for two years and their fans will now get all excited.

But given Pogba’s current status at Old Trafford and Griezmann’s persistent links with Barcelona, it’s probably more likely they will play together at the Nou Camp.
Meanwhile, United are set to face competition from Juventus in their pursuit of Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsey. The Star says the Italian champions are planning an “audacious swoop” for the Welshman, who they want to pair with the aforementioned Emre Can midfield.
