Gossip: Man United 'plotting' triple Tottenham raid, PSG eye two Premier League bosses and more

Manchester United could be set to raid Tottenham for three players.
Manchester United could be set to raid Tottenham for three players.

It’s been a bad week for Tottenham, which makes it a perfect time for other clubs to quickly try to buy their players while they are still sad about losing to Juventus.

The first club to use this cynical ploy is Manchester United, who the Mirror says are set to “renew their interest” in Eric Dier, almost a year after they gave up trying to sign him.

An opening bid of £55m for the English midfielder/defender apparently “could be enough to get Spurs to start negotiations” claims a reporter who clearly has no idea how much of a badass Daniel Levy is.

The determined Red Devils are “ready to test his resolve”. But it has been tested before, and it is tougher than Adebayo Akinfenwa’s pecs.

Still, United will not give up. According to the Sun, they will also return to north London – suitcase of cash in hand – and make another attempt to sign Danny Rose.

The left-back “wants to move to Old Trafford” but that might not matter if Levy doesn’t him want him to.

The Sun also says United – with trademark self-confidence – “believe they will win the race” to sign Toby Alderweireld. The Belgian’s contract situation has put Levy in a pickle because if he is not sold this summer, he will be available for a bargain £25m in a year’s time.

But if anyone can persuade rival clubs to pay £70m for a player they could buy for £25m in 2019, it’s Daniel.

At least Harry Kane isn’t going anywhere – at least not for a year. The Sun adds that Tottenham’s star man has pledged his future to the club for “one more season” and maybe more if Spurs win a trophy. Ha.

PSG target Pochettino

Another team trying to take advantage of Tottenham’s sadness is Paris Saint-Germain, who are apparently trying to nick Levy’s manager.

Talksport claims it has “been told” that the Ligue 1 leaders have made Mauricio Pochettino their “No1 target” to replace Unai Emery, who was also knocked out of the Champions League this week and is therefore likely to be sacked.

L’Equipe writer Erik Bielderman apparently confided in Talksport that Pochettino is “the man PSG really want”.

Which is weird, because the actual L’Equipe says the Parisians want Antonio Conte. The Chelsea boss is being “targeted by PSG for next season”, the French newspaper says in French.

But if Conte were to stay at Chelsea, he could have Robert Lewandowski in his ranks next season. Bleacher Report claims the Blues are “leading the race” to sign the Bayern Munich superstar in the summer… “along with Real Madrid”. Knew there had to be a catch.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are “favourites” to sign Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly, who is also wanted by Man Utd and Arsenal (Star), Barcelona have no interest in signing Arsenal right-back Hector Bellerin (Mundo Deportivo) and Barca’s “financial strategy director” Pancho Schroder (what a bloody amazing name) has admitted he fears “rival clubs” could be crazy enough to meet Lionel Messi’s £625m release clause (Mail). And by that he obviously means PSG.
