Gossip: Man Utd 'target Grealish', Ronaldo 'loses Real Madrid dressing room', Chelsea 'enter Bale race'

Jack Grealish could be set to cast aside Aston Villa’s play-off disappointment and join Manchester United, according to reports.
Jack Grealish could be set to cast aside Aston Villa’s play-off disappointment and join Manchester United, according to reports.

Jack Grealish has come a long way since that time he got smashed and passed out on the floor in Tenerife. Well, apart from the fact he was a Premier League player then and now he is in the Championship.

But on a personal level, he has grown and matured – nowadays if he gets drunk and collapses he makes sure nobody takes any photos of him. And Manchester United are impressed.

The Sun claims the Red Devils are “monitoring the progress” of the Aston Villa midfielder, who has sparkled in recent months but could not prevent the Midlanders missing out to Fulham in Saturday’s play-off final.

United boss Jose Mourinho apparently likes the 22-year-old’s “driving runs through midfield from deep-lying positions” and is considering signing Grealish “for the long term”. Which is a nice way of saying he won’t actually get in the team, unless it’s against MK Dons in the EFL Cup third round.

Real players ‘turn on’ Ronaldo

But at least he would have a laugh with his teammates, which is more than can be said for former Old Trafford hero Cristiano Ronaldo.

Reports in Spain, plagiarised for our convenience by the Sun, suggest Real Madrid’s players have “turned on” CR7 – and not in a sexy way. The 34-year-old has allegedly “lost the Real Madrid dressing room” with his post-match interview after the Champions League final.

The Portuguese superstar plunged his Bernabeu future into doubt by fiendishly employing the past tense to tell TV cameras, “It has been very nice playing for Real Madrid.”

But despite his subsequent U-turn on those comments, fellow Madrid players will “not forgive” Ronaldo for “spoiling” their celebrations and believe he only made the comments because he was unhappy he didn’t score and Gareth Bale did.

Bale worth £200m and £80m

Speaking of the Welshman, the Express is not a newspaper known for its attention to detail or its reliability, but it has outdone itself for negligence with the top stories on its football page this morning.

The first, published at 0030, reveals that Man Utd fear being priced out of a move for Bale because Real Madrid are demanding £200m for him. The second, published a mere 30 minutes later, states that United and Chelsea are battling to sign the 28-year-old forward, for whom Real “are demanding £80m”.

It’s difficult to know what to do with this information. One option would be to meet in the middle and estimate that Bale is valued at £140m, but perhaps a safer bet is to completely discount everything that has ever been written in the Express ever.

Meanwhile, Manchester City continue to “close in” on a £75m deal for Leicester winger Riyad Mahrez (Mail) but their £39m offer for Jorginho has been rejected by Napoli, who are demanding £52m for the Brazilian midfielder and will – invariably – get it (Mirror).

Elsewhere, Fulham’s promotion to the Premier League means the Cottagers’ teen sensation Ryan Sessegnon will stay at the club next season, much to the disappointment of Europe’s elite (Times), Roma insist they have had no contact from Liverpool regarding alleged Reds target Alisson (Mirror) and Man City’s goalkeeping outcast Joe Hart has switched agents in a bid to save his career (Mail). Hopefully this new agent is good at helping people catch footballs without dropping them.
