'I have got to say' - David Moyes makes Everton priority clear as 'stronger position' claim made
David Moyes said he had one simple message after Everton’s win over Leicester City - the target remains to ensure the club stays in the Premier League.
The Blues boss, who has led his team to three consecutive wins, was clearly happy in the aftermath of an emphatic win over one of the teams trying to put Everton’s top flight status under threat.
But while he was content to heap praise on the players for their role in a run that has moved Everton nine points clear of the bottom three, he insisted his thoughts remained focused on the clubs beneath the Blues, not those just above them in the table.

Speaking after the win at Goodison Park, he stressed: “I am certainly not getting carried away. The only job to do now is to make sure we are a Premier League team.”
The message echoed that given in public and private after the win at Brighton and Hove Albion seven days earlier. Extending the winning streak not only increased the size of the gap to the chasing pack, it also moved Everton above Tottenham Hotspur and within sight of mid-table.
Asked whether he was willing to contemplate overhauling the likes of West Ham United, Crystal Palace and Manchester United, the sides just above Everton in the Premier League table, Moyes said: “We can’t until we are in a stronger position but I have got to say today’s result is a big result for us.
"It puts us in a position where we are getting closer to the teams above us rather than the teams below getting closer to us. Let’s start seeing if we can climb the league - but I’m not getting carried away. The job to do is to make sure we are a Premier League team next year.”
