Bury North MP James Frith was the guest of honour at Bury and Elton Amateur Swimming Club's annual event.

The gala, dedicated to long-serving coach Brian Barlow, celebrates the club's swimmers' achievements throughout the year.

Mr Frith presented medals and prizes to the successful swimmers in front of their families, friends, and the club's volunteers.

Mr Frith said: "It was an honour to attend the Bury and Elton Amateur Swimming Club Christmas Gala and hand out the prizes to swimmers.

"It was great to meet the team involved and learn more about the approach the club takes to making swimming engaging and fun.

"This longstanding local club has supported generations of local swimmers.

"Not only does the club support swimmers to succeed in the pool, but the team also work to provide swimmers with development opportunities outside of swimming.

"Well done to all the swimmers and the volunteers who keep the club going, and contribute so much to its enduring success in the pool and out."

Founded in 1893, the Bury and Elton Amateur Swimming Club has more than 110 members, ranging from those progressing from swim schools to experienced, senior swimmers.

The not-for-profit club is entirely self-funded and not council-subsidised.

It is a fully inclusive club, with members of varying abilities and ages, and a diverse membership.

The club trains four times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.
