GREENOCK Juniors boss Gary Fleming will be looking to kick off 2025 in style by breaking his side's duck against Glasgow University.

The Ravenscraig outfit have failed to win any of their three previous meetings with the University side, who entered the West of Scotland Football League system two seasons ago.

A win at the Excelsior Stadium on Saturday could see them move within a point of the top of Division Three.

Fleming's side head to Airdrie this weekend four points off league leaders Thorn Athletic, who host Threave Rovers in Paisley.

And they'll be looking to strike whilst the iron is hot following a friendly at Ravenscraig on Tuesday evening.

Nock filled the gap left by the postponement of last weekend's trip to Lugar Boswell Thistle with a training session at Largs to keep up their players' fitness levels.

The last time these two sides met, Nock had to settle for a share of the spoils in a 1-1 draw on the opening day of the season in July, so they'll be looking to go one better this time around, having not conceded a goal in four of their last six games.

Their opponents, though, are also in good form, having only lost once in their last five in all competitions, which should make for a thrilling encounter.

In addition to the league leaders' clash with fifth-placed Threave, two of the division's other contenders, local rivals Finnart and Glasgow Perthshire, meet each other in Springburn.

This weekend's card also features a North Ayrshire derby between Dalry and Ardeer, who are both on the fringes of the promotion battle, meaning there's an extra significance in Greenock picking up three points as they hope to do on Saturday.

The Ravenscraig side head into the tie in fine spirits having welcomed Scott Patterson back into training this week following a spell out through injury.

That, coupled with a festive break that allowed the likes of Jamie Cunningham and long-term absentee Ryan Corr back into the fold, whilst securing the permanent return of forward James Marks, sees competition within the squad at an all time high.

Manager Gary Fleming is looking forward to getting back into action.

He said: “Following our friendly on Tuesday night, which gave valuable minutes to all players; it was noticeable that there is a varying of match sharpness arising from the disruption in to schedule due to Christmas, weather and injuries.

"We have only played 13 games in the league, yet the players have been working their socks off for seven months since June.

"Now we are going into a period where we will play 17 games in four months, so we will need every single player in the squad to play their part if we are to achieve our goals this year."

Kick off at the Excelsior Stadium is at 2pm.
