Greenock Parkrun sees 140 participants at year-end event
GREENOCK Parkrun celebrated a successful year-end event with a turnout of 140 participants.
The event, held on Saturday, December 28, included runners, joggers, and walkers, with 18 first-timers and 14 achieving new personal bests.
Adrian Young from Ayrodynamic Runners led the final run of the year, finishing the course in 17 minutes and 24 seconds, setting a new personal best.
Chris Upson from Cambuslang Harriers followed closely behind, completing the course in 17 minutes and 28 seconds.
Among the women, Elizabeth Gemmell was the first to finish, clocking in at 22 minutes and 27 seconds.
Throughout 2024, Greenock Parkrun, which is part of a nationwide initiative encouraging people to participate in a 5km timed run, has hosted 52 events.
Each week, an average of 127 runners and 19 volunteers took part, with the highest turnout being 209 runners and the lowest 79.
The final event of the year saw the participation of several young runners.
In the under-10s category, first-timer Freya Lamb completed her 10th parkrun.
In the 11-14 age group, Angus Hutchison and Louis Reid both achieved new personal bests, finishing at 19 minutes and 6 seconds, and 19 minutes and 7 seconds respectively.
The event was made possible by the efforts of 28 volunteers.
