GREENOCK Wanderers still put on a show over the weekend despite both men and women's first teams being out of action.

The lack of first team games allowed the club's youth stars to take precedence in an array of games across the west coast of Scotland.

Whilst there was a swathe of in-house action, two Wanderers starlets took their chance to shine on the big stage.

And the duo's efforts inspired the Wanderers' under-14 boys' squad, who defeated a strong GHK side on the road.

In a high-scoring affair, no fewer than six tries, along with four conversions, saw the Greenock side edge out their opponents by a 38-34 margin at New Anniesland.

In the ladies section, the under 14s had a good win at home to Waysiders, keeping a shutout in a 9-0 victory.

Cartha brought plenty of early pressure and Wanderers responded with some powerful kicks and runs.

That would see the Fort Matilda side get over the try line through Emma Fulton, which saw Louise Reddy follow up to convert, but the Glasgow side had too much firepower for their hosts and closed out victory by a 29-7 margin.

The result means the Greenock side have it all to do in their remaining National Plate group fixtures against Annan, Perthshire, Lismore and Dumfries if they're to progress to the next stage of the competition.

Meanwhile, new dates have been earmarked for three of the Wanderers men's first XV fixtures to have fallen victim to the weather in recent weeks.

The home match against Dunfermline has been rescheduled for Saturday, February 22, while the team's away games against Ardrossan Accies and Moray, called off this month because of a frozen pitch and the aftermath of Storm Eowyn respectively, have been pencilled in for April 5 and 12.
