Palace captain Guehi leads by example to cushion blow of losing Chalobah
Crystal Palace may have lost the services of defender Trevoh Chalobah, but captain Marc Guéhi stepped up to confirm victory for Oliver Glasner’s side.
Palace were dealt a blow on the day of the game when defender Chalobah was recalled by Chelsea from his loan spell.
But that would appear to have lessened their desire to take Guéhi away from Selhurst Park, and his goal with 12 minutes left put Palace two up and lifted them above Manchester United in the table.
It was a blow for Leicester City manager, Ruud van Nistelrooy, who had been looking to capitalise on two successive home games in a bid to ease their relegation concerns.
The King Power Stadium supporters turned their frustrations on Jon Rudkin, the director of football, during the team’s sixth successive Premier League League defeat.
But Palace made it six successive top-flight away games unbeaten, a feat they have only achieved in October 1990 and February 1992.
Palace may have lost the services of a player, but Leicester were able to announce a new signing ahead of kick-off as defender Woyo Coulibaly agreed a four-and-a-half-year contract after leaving Italian Serie A side Parma.
Leicester started well but their captain, Jamie Vardy was having a rare off night, as he missed a number of chances in front of goal.

But Palace made the breakthrough six minutes into the second half. Ismaïla Sarr won the ball back in the centre of the park and set Jean-Philippe Mateta clear. He stayed onside and took the ball around Jakub Stolarczyk, in the Leicester goal, before scorin,g Mateta then felt the need to celebrate by kicking at, and uprooting, a corner flag; but Andy Madley, the match referee, did not caution him.
Leicester sensed an equaliser and Bouba Soumaré’s 69th-minute shot hit the crossbar. But Palace made sure of victory when Ebrerechi Eze’s free-kick found Guéhi, who volleyed into the roof of the net.

The only lighter moment for Leicester fans was a flag-wielding pitch invader who managed to give stewards the slip before being rugby-tackled to the ground.
