Guiseley athlete impresses alongside Olympic triathlon star Jonny Brownlee

ABDI Darmood from Skyrac Athletic Club which is based in Guiseley, has continued his impressive cross-country season with another dominant performance, this time at the Yorkshire Cross Country Championships held in the grounds of Light Water Valley Theme Park in Ripon.

Building on his recent triumph of winning both the Men’s Senior and Under-20 Men’s titles at the West Yorkshire Cross Country League, Darmood lined up against Yorkshire’s best, including Olympic triathlon star Jonny Brownlee, who was competing in the Senior Men’s race.

The Under-20 Men’s race started simultaneously with the Senior Men’s, and from the starting gun, Darmood demonstrated the excellent form he has shown all season. He surged to an early lead in the Under-20 competition and impressively kept pace with the Senior Men during the opening stages.

He completed the course with a time of 27:41, showcasing his stamina and speed. His closest rival, Archie Budding of Ilkley Harriers AC, finished in 28:06, while Jonson Hughes of Rotherham Harriers AC secured third place in 28:50.

Skyrac AC is always on the lookout for new young athletes to join its ranks. With a strong history of developing talent, the club offers a training sessions at Nunroyd Park and Trinty College Athletics track.
