It seems there will be no new year bonus for Coventry City as news on old boy Gustavo Hamer’s future emerges from Bramall Lane.

The man Coventry City sold to Sheffield United for £15m the summer before last has been one of the Championship’s star players this term… attracting attention from the Premier League ahead of the winter transfer window.

Ipswich Town are the club cited with a particular interest in the Blades’ current player of the season, but a deal appears to be unlikely, according to the Mirror.

They report: “Hamer was a shining light in Sheffield United’s gloomy relegation season last term and the club is on course to bounce back at the first attempt.

“United are desperate for the 27-year-old to stay and will snub all offers for their key man. But it seems Hamer is in no hurry to return to the top flight in January either and hopes to achieve that aim at Bramall Lane.”

While it is not clear whether there was a sell-on clause included in the deal to sell Hamer to United, it would be unlikely to generate much cash as it would only be a percentage on any profit the Blades made on the original £15m fee.

The news will be particularly welcomed by Callum O’Hare, Hamer’s team-mate at Coventry who joined the Blades as a free agent in the summer. He has since made 19 appearances for his new club playing alongside Hamer.
