I had emotional Michael van Gerwen conversation before defeating him and here is exactly what I said

Dimitri Van den Bergh is keeping private a heartfelt conversation with Michael van Gerwen.

But he’s wide open about the fact he’s not Superman and will be asking the PDC to build his trophy cabinet after his DIY injury disaster. Van Den Bergh produced an immaculate nine-dart leg to help beat MVG in Milton Keynes and move into today’s quarter-finals. He was thrilled to finally end a dismal run against his Dutch nemesis after giving a message to him beforehand.

Van den Bergh said: “Me and Michael had a bit of a conversation before we had to go on the stage where I literally said: You and Luke Littler are classified in the same category. No-one has been as good as you guys on a consistent base, so high-performing standard wise, like this is mental. Me and him had a bit of a conversation. I’m gonna keep that between us, but there is professionalism, respect from one another and it’s just been my night. I’m a sergeant major in the army now. That’s how I feel.

“It ain’t about perfection, it’s about winning games. It’s not about averages, it’s about winning games and I’ve seen so many other top players hitting perfection and not win their games. I was not happy with that thought so I was like focus, focus, focus, focus.”

Van den Bergh now wants to go and win the trophy, but won’t be building the cabinet to hold it if he wins. It was revealed this week that the Belgian had spent 18 months struggling with a wrist injury a mishap building a table.

So DIY is is out of the game from now on as he smiled: “No I’ll ask the BBC to do it for me. The whole day went flawless but the last thing I had to do is build the living room table. We did everything fine then I needed to turn it around. Dimitri was Superman and I had everything on my right hand, my strong hand, but I lost balance and all of a sudden something snatched in my right wrist.

“So from now on, I can promise you I’ll never ever build furniture, I’ll never ever remove furniture. I’ll pay for it because this is so much more important.”
