Boss Robert Watson admits he has no complaints after Boroughmuir Thistle fought back to win on Sunday and inflict a second slip-up in a few days for Hamilton Accies Women.

After a 2-2 draw away to Ayr last midweek, Accies were beaten 3-1 at Boroughmuir to see their lead at the top of SWPL2 cut to six points.

Kirstie McIntosh gave Accies a first-half lead, but the hosts - who had inflicted Accies’ only previous league defeat of the season - rallied to take the spoils.

And Watson said: “We can’t have any complaints. I think we deserved to lose the game with our second half performance, particularly the last half hour of the game.

“We played well in the first half and deservedly took the lead, but some of the issues from Wednesday night - too many turnovers, individual errors leading directly to goals - cost us and if you do that against good teams, you lose the game.

“We had a big chance to go 2-0 up, which we’ve really got to take, but we didn’t. We then end up in a position where, for whatever reason, we just started to get deeper and deeper.

“There were a couple of changes made to try and get the initiative back but they didn’t really work. That is something we’ve got to look at in terms of what is coming off the bench.

“And all the players have got to look at themselves and ask: Did I make an impact when I needed to? I have been consistent all year that this is about all 22 players plus staff, it is not about an individual.

“There are going to be games where we need you to make an impact or we need the players to start well and get us into a good position. But, as a group, we just didn’t do that well enough. We need to find a way to do things differently to get a different result next time.”

Accies now host Gartcairn on Sunday, kick-off 4pm.
