In the modern day game, as rugby fans we are well-accustomed to seeing big hits, but sometimes there's one that really stands out.

Sheer power combined with perfect tackle technique can still result in perfect rugby moments. Of those recorded and uploaded to the internet, a hit from Sione Anau on a Joondalup Brothers player may well take the prize for the most brutal rugby tackle you will ever see.

Back in 2022, Joondalup faced Rockingham in Australia's Fortescue Premier Grade. Despite a 27-12 victory for Joondalup Brothers, it's a hit on Ryan McGloin which grabbed the attention of social media, picking up over 2.8 million views in a matter of days.

"Absolutely smashed into next week," said the commentator.

"McGloin has hit the deck hard, and it's not from anything but a very legal, very hard tackle."

The club confirmed that "all players were medically okay and all went home afterwards."

There is a notable mention in the professional game that rivals this hit. Many will remember Scott Williams' outrageous hit on Ireland legend Brian O'Driscoll in 2014, which was so powerful it actually injured Williams. The former Scarlets man confirmed that he had a grade four ruptured AC joint and torn deltoid as a result of the tackle.

O'Driscoll himself says it's the biggest hit he's ever taken. Speaking to ITV in 2024, the legendary centre opened up about the moment.

"The biggest shot I ever took was here [the Aviva Stadium] and it was Scott Williams of Wales. He melted me," said O'Driscoll.

"He read the play, hit me in my sternum, my whole backside was black and blue from the impact of hitting the ground, such was the force. He broke his collarbone and I would have broken multiple ribs if he hadn't hit me squad in the sternum. I was very badly winded but managed to carry on.

"They were trying to get me off for a HIA. I couldn't get my words out to say that I was just winded - because I was so badly winded! I must have been down for 90 seconds until I came round and was able to tell them. As he was holding his shoulder I was like, 'see? That's why I can't breathe!'

"My whole backside was black and blue, it was ridiculous. The biggest bruise I've ever had."
