Proud Harrogate Town boss Simon Weaver said his team were denied a penalty in the first half of their FA Cup defeat away to Leeds United.

The Whites edged the first-ever competitive meeting between the two sides after a second half goal from Largie Ramazani. The talented wide man headed in Manor Solomon's pinpoint cross to ensure United returned to winning ways after successive draws with Blackburn Rovers and Hull City.

It was a frustrating evening for the League Two outfit, who put in a disciplined, hard-working performance. They restricted the hosts to few clear-cut chances and had a strong penalty appeal waved away early on when Josuha Guilavogui seemed to bring Josh March down in the box. The visitors appeals fell on deaf ears as referee James Bell signalled for a goal kick.

Weaver, whose side were backed by a strong away following in West Yorkshire, said: “I thought they were trojans out there tonight. We’ll always look back on it as what a great night for our club. What an arena. You want more of it.

"The level of Leeds players are through the roof. We can go home with our head held high."

Farke fielded a strong starting line-up, featuring Pascal Struijk, Ethan Ampadu, Manor Solomon, Wilfried Gnonto, Ramazani and Mateo Joseph. Weaver quipped: “I thought he (Farke) would have put a few youngsters out!"

Defeat means Harrogate, who are currently 21st in League Two, have won just one of their past nine matches across all competitions.
