Former Tottenham Hotspur striker and current Bayern Munich forward Harry Kane has expressed his excitement for the controversial expanded Club World Cup after the draw was made on Thursday.

FIFA announced last season that the Club World Cup, held in the United States next year, would be expanding to a 32-team tournament that shall take place at the culmination of the regular season. Chelsea and Manchester City will be representing England across the Atlantic Ocean, and should they reach the final, they will start the 2024/25 Premier League season just a month later.

Fifpro, which represents the players' unions worldwide, launched legal action against FIFA for expanding the tournament in June this year. The world football governing body is accused by Fifpro of abuse of dominance and violating European competition laws.

They also declare that FIFA have 'violated the rights of players. FIFA president Gianni Infantino regarded the lawsuit as a 'futile debate'.

However, it is not just Fifpro who have spoken out against the Club World Cup. Manchester City defender Ruben Dias called out the competition earlier this year, stating: "To perform better, it is necessary to ensure that athletes are safe, but few care about the athletes, but rather the financial aspect and profit.

"This season especially will be the craziest yet, with the Club World Cup at the end of the season. We have to think about the players if we want to put on a good show, giving ourselves enough time to recharge our batteries and put on the best show."

Kane does not seem to join Fifpro and Dias in their analysis of the Club World Cup. After discovering his Bayern Munich team will face Benfica, Boca Juniors and Auckland City in the group stages, the England captain took to X, writing: "Exciting group - looking forward to playing in this in the States!"

Spurs' former striker has often spoken fondly for all things America. He has regularly attended NFL matches when they have been played in Europe and is undoubtedly looking forward to his summer trip to the States.
