Harvey Elliott gives four reasons why ‘amazing’ Liverpool side could ‘achieve big things’
Harvey Elliott has explained why Liverpool ‘could achieve big things’ this season.
The Reds secured its place in the Champions League knockout stages on Tuesday night courtesy of a 2-1 win over Lille at Anfield. It means Liverpool will definitely finish in the top eight and bypass the play-off rounds, although Barcelona’s comeback win over Benfica in Lisbon denied Arne Slot’s side the chance to secure first place.
Liverpool’s Champions League triumph is mirrored in its Premier League success, with the side sitting six points clear at the top of the table and having a game in hand on the chasing pack. The Reds are also still competing in two domestic cup competitions.

Elliott, who scored the winning goal against Lille, said Liverpool has assembled a special group of players.
“It’s hard to describe. We’re just a family. I think we enjoy spending time together more than we do with our families,” the 21-year-old told Amazon Prime after the Champions League success.
“We’re happy to be with each other and are always meeting up outside of training, keeping in touch on days off. The group chat is always pinging off with messages.
“To be able to play in this team with not just amazing players, but amazing human beings, a great manager and coaching staff behind us, I feel like we’re in the best possible place to achieve big things this season.”
Slot’s impact since his arrival last summer has been incredible. The Dutchman has harnessed the unpredictable attacking patterns that were a hallmark of Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, while adding greater midfield control and defensive structure.
Asked what the manager’s approach would be after the Lille game, Elliott replied; “We have a little debrief. He waits for everyone to settle down, especially after winning the emotions are high and everyone is messing around.
“We have a little debrief, two to five minutes long on things we did well and things we can improve on, but the main debrief is tomorrow and we have meetings.”
Liverpool’s no.19 also revealed the meaning behind his goal celebration, which came in response to recent reports that he could leave the Reds on loan this month.
“I think it’s pretty clear to be honest. I’m not leaving,” Elliott explained. “I said it in the interview the other day, this is my team, this is my club. I am a massive fan and we’re in a great position so far this season.”
