Liverpool hero Harvey Elliott had to delay his post-game celebrations after scoring the only goal in a 1-0 win over Paris Saint-Germain, due to not playing enough minutes.

Elliott scored with his first touch of the game after replacing Mohamed Salah on 86 minutes, squeezing his effort past PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma to take a shock lead back to Anfield. Elliott's goal was Liverpool's only shot on target through 90 minutes, as Alisson Becker remained flawless after PSG had 27 efforts, 10 on target.

As Liverpool began celebrating the narrow win after holding out PSG before silencing the French crowd, head coach Arne Slot reminded Elliott that he needed to warm down with the other substitutes. Elliott was only on the field for 10 minutes and still had to follow protocol while his teammates.

It was Elliott's third Champions League goal of the season, and a crucial one as Liverpool was outplayed all evening. Still, the Reds took their chance when it mattered and now have a one-goal advantage to defend at home when they face PSG at Anfield on March 11.

While it was Elliott who found the net, fellow substitute Darwin Nunez was hailed for his unselfish assist. The Uruguayan striker received the ball inside the penalty area during a counter-attack, but had the awareness to spot Elliott in space on the right wing.

Elliott may have been the hero, and Nunez delivered after facing criticism in recent months for poor performances, but Alisson was the reason that Liverpool secured an unlikely win. Liverpool had 25 fewer shots than PSG, which is the joint-largest negative difference in shots by a winning team in Champions League history at the knockout stages.

PSG couldn't break down Alisson, and Liverpool recorded a clean sheet for the sixth time in nine Champions League games this season. Liverpool has never kept more than seven clean sheets during a single Champions League campaign.

Alisson is often humble and rarely discusses his strengths as one of the top goalkeepers in world soccer. However, after the game even Alisson admitted that it may be his best career performance to date.

"It was probably the performance of my life," Alisson told TNT Sports. "The manager was telling us how hard it would be to play against PSG, how good they are with the ball and that we would have to be ready to suffer.

"We knew what was coming. We worked hard. We gave away so many chances, sometimes one v one but the biggest part of the chase is having someone make the player with the chance think a bit more. All the efforts the team put in makes my job easier. Then at th e end Harvey [Elliott] coming in and scoring the goal, it is a great story for us. A great night."
