I heard Arne Slot complaint about Liverpool and it perfectly sums up Reds boss

Between Christian Pulisic and Jonathan David's goals against Liverpool this season, Arne Slot's side went almost six hours in the Champions League without conceding. Never before have the Reds done that.

Winning seven out of seven, keeping clean sheets against Real Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen on the way, Liverpool is already guaranteed a spot in the last-16 without the need for a play-off. A point in Eindhoven next week against PSV will ensure that Slot's men finish top of the new-look table, though a win — making it eight out of eight — would be a big achievement.

Things could hardly be looking better for Liverpool, not least in the context of having changed manager in the summer. While the assumption was that the transition would take some time, Slot has managed it seamlessly.

Liverpool is six points clear in the Premier League table and in contention for all the competitions it entered. With the strongest roster to choose from in England, it couldn't have dreamt of being in such a position.

Still, though, Slot wants more. Like his goalkeeper and defenders, the Liverpool boss was disappointed that yet another goal was scored against his side — though it does at least seem to have turned around the trend of the Reds going behind in games, having done so five times out of seven in the Premier League before Brentford and Lille.

"We didn't force a pass; we just kept the ball for as long as we could," Slot said during his post-match press conference at Anfield. "The only thing I wasn't happy about is that — not for the first time in recent weeks it was one chance for the other team and a goal. But that's maybe a phase of the season we are in at the moment."

No matter the result or the opponent, Slot has been keen to downplay his side's achievements this season. He is a perfectionist, and it sums him up that even with another win secured without getting out of second gear, he couldn't resist the chance to point to something else that needed to be improved.

There is always a complaint or something to fix, with a clear message about a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to complacency. While graciously accepting Thomas Frank's compliment that Liverpool was the best team in the world at the weekend, the Dutchman gave a blunt reply when asked if he thought that was true.

"No," he said. "I think we have a lot of quality and players work really hard. [But] I can come up with five or six teams who are also very good. Every time we win it is by small margins. They understand how hard we have to work for a win. Bayern Munich is very good and Barcelona beat Benfica 5-4."

It is becoming harder and harder to argue with Frank's assessment, which was shared by Lille goalscorer Jonathan David. There is no doubt, though, that Slot will keep resisting it.
