Scotland and Rangers legend Ally McCoist labelled the situation at Reading as 'heart-breaking' when discussing the club on TalkSPORT with legendary presenter Jeff Stelling.

McCoist, who scored over 350 goals in 581 appearances for the Gers, was hosting the TalkSPORT breakfast show with former Soccer Special host and iconic presenter, Jeff Stelling.

Reading supporters had got in touch to try and bring the ongoing ownership crisis at the club to a wider audience, and both duly obliged.

"Reading fans see this as another nail in their coffin," Stelling said about Sam Smith's exit to Wrexham for short-term funding. "Signing their star players- Noel Hunt says he was ‘hurt and upset’ that they sold Sam Smith. The club has been for sale for 500 days and every suitor seems not to be able to satisfy Dai Yongge. If you’re a fan, you must wonder what do you do? They’ve had the tennis ball protest, they’ve been docked points, they’ve had transfer embargoes slapped on them. What do you do when you see your club effectively being killed?"

McCoist responded by saying: "It's heart-breaking- in front of their very eyes. In answer to your question, I don’t know Jeff. What do they do?"

"I don’t know," Stelling responded. "We talked about Morecambe a couple of weeks ago. I’m not sure what the EFL’s remit is or what they can do. Surely somebody has to do something rather than just sitting and watching a club who not so many years ago were in the top division."

A proud supporter of the football pyramid and champion for lower league football, Stelling had previously praised Royals fans for getting a match abandoned last year against Port Vale against owner Dai Yongge.
