Former Manchester United defender Mikael Silvestre has told Ruben Amorim that Marc Guehi should "definitely" be on his radar.

United signed two centre-backs in the summer. Leny Yoro arrived at Old Trafford in a deal worth an initial £52m before United paid an initial £38.4m for Matthijs de Ligt. The former only made his first competitive start for the club at the weekend after picking up an injury in pre-season and the latter has struggled in his first few months in the Premier League.

United could well be in the market for another centre-back next year with Victor Lindelof, Jonny Evans and Harry Maguire all out of contract in the summer. Maguire has the option of an additional year in his deal.

Silvestre has been impressed by Marc Guehi's performances at club and international level and believes the Crystal Palace defender would be perfect for Amorim's system.

"Marc Guehi should definitely be on Manchester United’s list as a long-term option in defence," Silvestre told Boyle Sports. "He almost went to Newcastle and is shining at Crystal Palace after proving himself to be one of the best defenders for one of the best nations in the world with England.

"What he is doing at Palace is proving he can be tested and perform week in and week out. I have been really impressed with his performances and I think he’d fit in really well with Ruben Amorim’s style of play.

"He is not shy of playing vertical passes and is always alert, he is strong, wins his duels and is good one on one, he’d fit in well at United."
